Easy and Tasty No-Bake Chocolate Chip Granola Bar Recipe

Granola bars are a delicious snack to have on hand in the field, and they are easy to pack and carry along.  They also provide us with a nice energy boost, and they can help to ease hunger pangs between meals. Whether you're camping in the lap of luxury or roughing it with a backpack and camping hammock, good snacks are essential to have on hand, and granola bars are some of the most popular.

Let's take a look at a simple and delicious recipe that you can prepare ahead of time, and this can also be a great alternative to buying granola bars that contain a lot of additives and preservatives.

1 cup of regular oats

1 cup of quick oats

1 cup of rice cereal

½ cup of packed brown sugar

½ cup of chocolate chips

¼ cup of bee honey

4 tablespoons of butter

2 tablespoons of wheat germ

1-2 tablespoons of flax seed

½-1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Combine the oats, flax seed and wheat germ in a large bowl and set aside.  Add the butter, brown sugar and honey to a saucepan and bring up the heat to a simmer.  Stir until the ingredients are combined evenly and cook for a minute or two before stirring in the vanilla.   Let cook over low heat for another minute or two.  While you are waiting, take a 9x9 baking pan and butter the bottom and sides.

Remove the liquid from heat and carefully pour it over the dry ingredients in the mixing bowl.  Mix everything together evenly with a wooden spoon.  You can finish the mixing with your hands once the ingredients are cool enough to touch.  Take a spatula and pour the mixture into the baking pan and spread it evenly before sprinkling the chocolate chips on top.  Gently press the chocolate into the granola and allow everything to cool until they are soft, yet firm enough to cut.

Cut into even pieces and allow them to cool until they begin to harden.  Place the bars in an airtight bag or container and let cool overnight at room temperature.  Re-package the bars as needed and pack them away for your trip.  Just make sure that you try to keep the bars away from direct sunlight or heat in order to prevent the chocolate from melting.

Try this recipe out for yourself before your next trip.  This is a great activity to enjoy with the entire family as everyone gets geared up for their outdoor adventure.  Finally, feel free to experiment with different ingredients and flavors until you come up with the best-tasting snack that your whole family can enjoy.
